Hi, I'm Sian.
I'm a primary and music teacher based in Shipley, West Yorkshire.
Music has always been a huge part of my life. I began learning Piano at the age of 6 and Flute at 10. Most of my teenage years were spent rehearsing with my local county youth orchestra - I even met my husband there!
I was a primary school teacher for 12 years, during which time I was maths lead, literacy lead, deputy head and acting head. Since I began tutoring nearly four years ago, I have taught more than 1500 hours of primary and music lessons. I am also a SATs KS2 Reading Specialist marker.
My philosophy is the same whether I am teaching primary curriculum or music. I want to immerse children and adults in the wonderful world of learning, to inspire and ignite curiosity, and to build that all-important confidence.

Primary and Music Tutor
I teach all primary year groups (Years 1-6). I have prepared students for KS1 and KS2 SATs in all curriculum subjects and helped those on grade boundaries achieve both expected standard and greater depth. I also have experience with preparing a student for the 11+. She succeeded in gaining entry to a prestigious selective school.
I teach piano, recorder and music theory lessons to adults and children. I have a 100% pass rate in ABRSM examinations.

I currently accompany Thornton Singers at their weekly rehearsals.
Previous experience includes accompanying ABRSM examinations, music recitals, and ballet/tap lessons.
I am an experienced primary school teacher who has been deputy head and acting head as well as both maths and literacy lead.
I led music across several schools, which included planning whole school curriculum, training staff, running choirs and music groups, and organising nativities, performances and shows.
Highlights include two performances at Young Voices Sheffield and taking part in the Bradford Schools' Prom.
I taught individual and group lessons to children and adults in schools, music centres and at home. I entered and prepared pupils for ABRSM examinations, concerts, and GCSE/A-Level performances.
I also taught GCSE and A-Level Music.

Thanks to my academic background and considerable experience, I can ensure all lessons are appropriately pitched to your child’s age and ability, balancing challenge with reinforcement. Your child will feel positive about their achievements and gain a clear understanding of their next steps.
I use a lot of games, practical activities and discussion-based work in my lessons. Each lesson is bespoke and designed specifically for your child. This is something no teacher can do in a school setting, however much they may wish to.

Introducing Group Tuition!
Looking for a different type of tuition for your child? Look no further. Sian Hughes Tuition is now running groups.
Our first group session is entitled 'Books and More'.
It's suitable for children aged 7-11 and each 6-week block of sessions will be planned around a popular text (chosen to suit the needs of the students).
We'll cover all of the requirements of the Key Stage Two English curriculum and it's suitable for 11+ preparation too.
Group Tuition is an affordable way of giving your child that little bit of extra help.
As with all my tuition, the focus is on building confidence, improving skills and empowering and enabling students.
Group tuition gives your child the opportunity to learn from the peers as well as from their tutor in a supportive environment. All lessons will be planned to suit the needs of the learners and groups will be no larger than six.
As this is our first group course we are offering this at a discounted price of £10 per session, per child. This is a bargain price and will not be repeated so please sign up today!
Music Tuition
Learning a musical instrument is the start of a life-long enriching journey.
Whether you are new to music or returning after a break, I can design a programme of lessons to help you achieve your goals in an enjoyable and engaging way.
I will focus on the core skills you need to access a range of musical styles from classical to contemporary, country to pop and jazz to rock'n'roll. These skills will include developing your musical ear, learning to read and notate, music theory, improvisation, technique for your instrument and so much more.
If you are looking for music lessons for your child, I have a wealth of experience to offer. As a fully qualified primary teacher, I have a good understanding of how children learn and can adapt my materials to suit their age, learning style and interests.
